    HIV/AIDS

    Human Immunodeficiency Virus is the virus that cause AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency virus). This virus destroys the body's immunity (body's ability to fight infections) gradually. These viruses are transmitted through sexual, oral or anal, vaginal contact with an affected person. It can also transmit by sharing injections with an infected person, or from infected mother to baby during pregnancy, birth or breastfeeding. Transfusing infected blood can also cause HIV virus transmission.

    HIV infection during the period of pregnancy is a risky issue. Complications such as stillbirth, pre-term birth, intrauterine birth are the main complications. The virus can be transmitted to the baby also. It can be during the time of birth, pregnancy or breastfeeding. There is a possibility of getting the virus transmitted to the child, if you do not take proper treatment.

    There are cases, where the women may not notice that she has a problem before her pregnancy. Some may get to know about it at the time of delivery. In order to avoid this risk, it is better to find the infection before it gets severe. To avoid these issues, every pregnant women are suggested to under go for HIV test. Some of the renowned health organizations such as the Union States Public Health Service recommend HIV test for all pregnant women.
