HISTORY
 
A 27-year-old Mrs. X who has been married since 4 months came to Guru Hospital, Madurai for the second opinion with a diagnosis of right ovarian .MRI scan showed 17 x 14 x 9.5 cm mass and Tumor marker was elevated. 
 
The various available cancer treatment options and fertility solutions were explained to her and her family 
 
But the patient and patient’s family insisted for a treatment which would ensure that the patient would be able to conceive.
 
 After discussion with TUMOR BOARD, Fertility preserving procedure was done
 
During surgery, the team also confirmed cancer has not spread to other vital organs present in and around the affected ovary. The patient went through the complete cancer treatment procedures post-surgery.
 
After the patient successfully completed and recovered from the cancer treatments the patient, underwent treatment for infertility. The patient was advised for medication and follicular monitoring for ovulation. The scan results showed good ovulation and egg formation at the left ovary. The appropriate treatment for infertility was provided which resulted in a successful pregnancy
 
*FERTILITY-SPARING SURGERY (FSS) IN OVARIAN CANCER*
 
It is a procedure to be considered in for a young woman with ovarian cancer .criteria to be fulfilled are
1  women do not have children 
2  the cancer is an early stage
 
WHAT IS     FERTILITY-SPARING SURGERY (FSS)
 
Fertility-sparing surgery (FSS) of epithelial ovarian cancer is based on unilateral (salpingo-)oophorectomy and complete surgical staging. (Omentectomy,  Pelvic nodal sampling, peritoneal Biopsy was done)
 The aim of treatment - both ovarian cancer treatment and fertility preservation
 
POSSIBLE CANDIDATES FOR FERTILITY – SPARING TREATMENT
• Malignant germ cell tumours
• Borderline tumours
• Stage IA invasive epithelial ovarian cancer
 
 
OTHER OPTIONS
 
Egg freezing may also be an option if you are undergoing a type of chemotherapy that can damage eggs. These eggs can be fertilized to create embryos, which are then frozen and can be used for in vitro fertilization at some point in the future.
